Caries treatment is one of the most common procedures in our practice. Carious defects are cleaned under local anesthesia and restored with top-grade composite materials, with the tooth first isolated with a rubber dam. This allows us to come as close as possible to the natural colour and contour of the tooth and to ensure a reliable bond between the composite and the tooth. This is done in a single visit and is the best option for small and medium carious defects. For larger destruction, an indirect restoration with an overlay is preferred.
Indirect restorations
Indirect restorations are a type of filling made for large carious defects, after endodontic treatment, or for larger tooth fractures. They are completed in two visits: at the first visit the tooth is prepared in a specific way, an impression is taken and sent to a laboratory where a dental technician fabricates the overlay. They can be made of various materials – composite, hybrid materials or ceramic. At the second visit they are fixed onto the tooth and the restoration process is complete. Indirect restorations provide a reliable bond to the tooth structures and preserve significantly more tissue compared to conventional approaches.
Endodontic treatment
Endodontic treatment involves cleaning, disinfecting and filling the root canal system of the teeth. It becomes necessary when the carious process has reached the pulp (nerve) of the tooth, or when complications from previous treatment or trauma lead to inflammation in the tooth and the surrounding tissues. Endodontic treatment in our practice is performed under magnification with a ZEISS dental microscope for maximum precision.
